ProjectsThis is where we'll announce the most recent additions to our web site. If you've visited us before and want to know what's changed, take a look here first. Recent Projects on Bird KeyEntryway Renovation Project - Based on over a year of input from residents and detailed conversations with several landscape architects, the Board chartered a landscape architect to design an entryway renovation. Implementation of most of the project took place in the Winter-Spring of 2006. The project was strongly supported by donations from Bird Key members. A few items still remain open issues and are being addressed by the Board and selected contractors. Rodent Control - Rodent traps and bait are still available at office. (Click here for further information) Canopy Tree Project – The first phase of the Green Canopy Program on Bird Key was completed in 2005. Over thirty trees were added to the front yards of many homes along Bird Key Drive between the entry and the first bridge. These Royal Palms will grow in future years and give a truly majestic appearance to our Key. A second phase will take place in 2007 when additional trees are added along the rest of Bird Key Drive and along Pheasant Drive. Residents receiving the trees have said they would water the trees and care for them as though they were their own. The supports for the trees are removed in about a year; they will ensure the trees remain upright even in a hurricane. WMURT Western Corridor Project – The City of Sarasota has a West Multi-Use Recreational Trail (WMURT) project that will ultimately update the landscaping from the entrance light at Bird Key to St. Armand's Key and Lido Shores. Bird Key residents have made input to this project during the various meetings held by the City. We expect that new sidewalks and landscaping will be re-done on both sides of John Ringling Blvd. During 2007 as the City starts this project. |
